This was a post-mother's day dinner so I was in charge of choosing the place. I had several places in mind, places I wanted to try for the first time and old personal favorites. This was my opportunity to be selfish. I decided on Sai Gon Quan in Parkmall Cebu. Sai Gon Quan is a personal favorite. We've eaten there twice before and although I wished we could go there more often, it is quite a long way from our place.
I've never been to Vietnam, but I love Vietnamese food and the culture. Sometimes I dream about traveling and seeing these places for myself and
MR, but obviously I can't. But for now, I am contented with exploring these culture the restaurant way.
Sai Gon Quan is turning 2 this June and it owned by a Filipino man married to a Vietnamese woman. The owners are very hands-on (in fact, the owner was eating dinner with friends 2 tables away from us). The chef is Vietnamese and the ingredients used are brought in from Vietnam.

The furniture for the most part are made of bamboo. Even the wall decorations and baby high chairs! It has a very Asian feel. There was no background music, but I think Vietnamese music would have been pleasant to dine to! The table setting is a simple plastic placemat, white plate and chopsticks, and they also provide spoon and forks. There is also salt, pepper, and table napkins on the table. From the moment, we were seated down we were assigned to one server. He gave us the menu right away and although the choices were limited, I love the food here. The server was quite attentive and food was served within reasonable time. The payment went smoothly too. By the way, they accept major credit cards, which is a big plus for us. We brought home the leftovers and they were packed in small plastic bags inside a styrofoam and carried in a plastic bag. I personally would have preferred microwavable containers.

Before the food started coming in, I excused myself to go to the bathroom. They have separate bathrooms for men and women, but the sink is outside for washing your hands. The area is beside the kitchen and a little cramped. The bathroom was clean with no unpleasant smell. It had toilet paper and running water. The sink outside had running water and soap, but the area was a bit dirty.
On the way back to our table, I saw some ingredients placed on shelves on the sides. Maybe they were on sale, but the choices were limited. The restaurant is composed of 9 tables and including outside, I think it can accommodate at least 40 people. During our stay, about 5 other tables were occupied. People seemed to be satisfied.
On Sundays, they have a special lunch and dinner buffet comprised of 12 dishes at P299 per head. I'm hoping to try it out soon.

| this was placed outside the restaurant. I'm not familiar with this object, but makes me think it's a Vietnamese mode of transportation (?). |
