No trip to Boracay is complete without a meal at Deparis Resort. So after settling in our room and a quick afternoon stroll on the beach, we were ready to have our first dinner in Boracay.
Taj Guesthouse in Boracay is located at Station 2 fronting the white beach. It is a 5 minute walk from D'Mall going to the Boracay Regency side. When you reach the E. Pascual Store there is an alley. Enter it. There is a series of guesthouses you can choose from. We stayed at Taj Guesthouse, not by choice and here's how it went.
Seeing that we asked to be dropped at D'Mall and it was lunchtime already, we decided to have lunch before checking in our accommodation. I already knew where we were having lunch; I had planned our itinerary ahead. Our first lunch in Boracay would be at Aria Cucina Italiana.
Going to Caticlan from Cebu was not as smooth as we had experienced before. The main problem was our flight. Our original plan was to fly to Caticlan from Cebu via Cebu Pacific Air and our scheduled flight was at 5:40am. At 4:00am, we arrived at the Cebu International Airport only to see that our flight was canceled. No particular reasons were given but we were told to stay in the check-in line for updates.

About a month ago, I went online to book our hotel accommodations for our August 2011 Boracay trip. I had heard about Agoda through a friend, who had booked from them a couple of months ago. She only had positive things to say about her experience so I decided to check it out myself.

We are busy packing our bags for our super early flight tomorrow morning. Everybody is excited. The weather hasn't been good lately and today was the first day it didn't rain at all this week. I hope it stays this way and it's the same way in BORACAY! Boracay has a special special place in our hearts. ♥ So rain or shine, we are determined to have lots of fun!

Another soup post...that's how crappy the weather has been lately. I found a pack of rice noodles I was saving for a day like this. I've wanted to try something new like maybe a salad or something, but I made another soup instead. Remember my childhood Chinese soup? This was something like that, but unfortunately not as good. Plus my soup has mushrooms and carrots which was definitely not in my favorite childhood soup. But I had to add the carrots and mushrooms so SM would have fresh vegetables in her meal and to clean out the refrigerator.

I didn't know that I was making a Moroccan-inspired dish until I had my first bite of the finished product. The flavors tasted so close to the Moroccan Couscous Royale Dad makes that I had to pause in awe and asked MR, "Did I really just make this?!" with a huge grin.

I was making this Risotto while munching on the green mango MR brought home. We are leaving in a couple of days so I am determined to finish all vegetables and meats in the refrigerator and freezer. I saw that I had Enoki and Oyster mushrooms. I bought Enoki mushrooms out of curiosity. We love mushrooms, but this wasour first time to try Enoki. I've never had Enoki at restaurants either.
Yesterday was Jollibee, today Husband brought home Green Mango with Shrimp Paste. Simple pleasures! I'm a huge fan of sour fruits and this is no exception. Plus with the shrimp paste, yum! Funny but this is one of the reasons why I miss school (high school and college). After class, I used to buy this all the time. And if not this, I would get papaya, pineapple, or watermelon. Salty food like peanuts and fish balls too.

I'm never gonna lose weight if Husband keeps bringing home snacks every time he's out of an errand! His excuse is that I can write about this. Or maybe he meant writing about how sweet he is. ♥ Anyways, this Jollibee run according to him was to test-drive the promo card we got at Jollibee F. Cabahug Street. It worked perfectly.

These are my princess shoes. I call them "princess shoes" because I recently read an article about the British Royals' visit to the United States. In the article, they mentioned how the Queen of England prefers that women in the Royal Family wear closed-toe shoes which aren't high-heeled. Apparently, it isn't a law/rule, but open-toe shoes in Royal visits are highly frowned upon by the Queen. Women are also encouraged to cover their legs with some sort tights.

It's been raining hard in the city, and I mean really hard! Thunder + Lightning + Heavy Rain. Pictures of flooded streets have surfaced in Facebook. In fact, I was shocked to see a picture that one of my friends posted was of a flooded street right outside of our village. Thank God we didn't go at all today or else we would have had a very hard time coming home.

Andres Bonifacio was inspired by the French storming the Bastille when he planned the revolution. Dr. Jose Rizal was exiled in France when he wrote Noli Me Tangere and President Cory Aquino was hailed by the French as the Filipino Joan of Arc during People Power. These are just some of the several points I retained from Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia's speech for the Bastille Day Celebration. The point of her speech was to emphasize how strong the French-Filipino ties have been for a long time.
After much objection from my husband, I have just started to use a credit card. This was finally approved by him when I promised that I would only use this in an extreme case of emergency. I guess he was initially doubtful because I can be a shopalcoholic and if no one controls me I buy things I don’t necessarily need. Yes my friends, I have a bad case of not being able to identify between want and need. Uh-oh! Anyways, when I finally found my card, I started looking online for sites about credit cards. And then I thought to myself, what if I run into problems with my card? What am I supposed to do?

People in a local forum have posted about how staff at Casa Verde Ayala prefer serving foreigners versus Filipino diners. I don't know how much of that is actually true. We were at Ayala this afternoon shopping for shoes for an event tomorrow. We had originally planned on picking up food from Casa Verde, but the afternoon went on and before we knew it, it was already 6pm. Since we had planned on picking up food at Casa Verde, why not dine there instead?
Traveling is the perfect opportunity to explore new places and expand one’s cultural knowledge. Whether it be as an individual, as a couple, or as a group. In our family, we view traveling as a great bonding experience. But a lot of factors can affect a successful trip. What way of transportation, which places to eat at, and most especially, the places to stay at.

We finalized the plans for our daughter's party. That little one is excited to turn 3! And before her special party, we are taking an equally special family trip out of town. We are very excited about that too. So today was spent out, paying deposits, printing airplane tickets, and confirming hotel accommodations. We are definitely set to go.

On a recent shopping trip, I noticed a new flavor of Red Rock Deli Potato Chips. I'm already a big fan of their Sweet Chili and Sour Cream. I already featured that here. This new flavor was Honey Soy Chicken and I was curious.

I gotta be honest but I never really noticed Leylam Shawarma until they came up with their Shawarma Rice. The first time we had Shawarma Rice was at the Christmas Bazaar in IT Park. I remembered thinking how inventive this was and how much we loved the garlic sauce. We are very big on garlic in our family.

This particular Sunday I didn't feel like going out. No particular reason, I just didn't feel like myself this morning. MR, being the sweet husband that he is, didn't mind doing our Sunday shopping by himself and SM. When he was done buying our weekly bread, pastries, and what else, he picked up some food for lunch. He knew that if I wasn't in the mood for going out, then I wouldn't be in the mood to cook.

Tonight's dinner is quite special : 1.) Dad's cooking, 2.) he's making Confit de Canard (Duck Confit), and 3.) he's making his potato specialty on the side. What did I do to deserve this? I say I must have done something real good! ☺☺☺

Friends are God's apology for relatives - Hugh Kingsmill
So this is what God was thinking when he decided to give me these 2 amazing friends in lieu of sisters. I met RY and LA on our fourth year of High School. In fact, we were seatmates, and yes, we were apprehended several times for talking too much! LOL What do you expect from 3 16-year olds seated together during boring classes in an all-girls Catholic school?!? At 25 (and one is now 26 hehe), we are still the same chatty 16 year olds. The 3 of us like to go out and have dinner once a month to catch up with the very exciting life happenings. This month's dinner was super duper special one as we were celebrating RY's birthday.

MR and I did something very naughty when we got home from our "Thursdate". It was the first time that SM didn't sleep the night at home (she was at her grandparents' house) and I guess we wanted to somehow extend the night. So rather going to bed, we decided to go back in time, back when we were dating and having study sleepovers, and cooked Spicy Tuna Pasta as our midnight snack.
This is a special day for husband and I. As much as we love spending most of our time with our daughter, a break is very much needed once in a while. Did I mention that she's in her terrible twos and entering the terrific threes soon??? A break to remind us of how times were when it was just the two of us. Coincidentally, today is the opening night of Harry Potter 7 (yes, the last one!) in Cebu and also France's Independence Day. Independence Day celebration is postponed to a couple of days later, but Harry Potter 7 is a great opportunity for our "Thursdate".

Tonight's dinner is purely vegetarian. Once in a while, I'll do this, cook a dish with only vegetables, or I'll cook something else on the side for the super meat-lovers in the house. Considering that eggplants are quite filling, I cooked just this and nothing else on the side. We have an upcoming Boracay trip at the end of the month, so I'm trying hard to finish everything I have in the refrigerator and freezer and not make any more trips to the grocery store.

Anytime I make chicken liver, there is a very happy eater at home. That happy eater is my Dad. And he always makes sure I know how happy he is. I personally prefer chicken gizzard, but I've learned to appreciate chicken liver. It's beef liver that I'm still iffy about. That, I've never made.

The sense of smell can be so powerful! A couple of weeks ago, I had no idea what the Wansuy herb was and what importance it had in my life. But as I was shopping for parsley, I accidentally bought a pack of Wansuy only realizing my mistake when I was home. I smelled the herb and oh my gosh, so many memories came to mind. I literally had flashes of my past.

Let me introduce you to my favorite restaurant in Cebu: Choi City in Banilad Town Centre. Favorite restaurants of mine have come and gone, but this one seems to stick. We've been going here 3-4 times a month since it opened and I always leave the place happily full and craving for more. How can this be?! What's in their food?!? I simply love. ♥

After a day of shopping and strolling at the mall, we decided to grab something to eat. It's another family day for us! ☺

A couple of days ago, I got an invite to try Teppanyaki Rice at Robinson's Cybergate. After several text exchanges, we finalized the meet-up details. This was such a coincidental timing because I've heard a lot about this food stall from local forums and friends. I badly wanted to try it and 2 days before receiving the invite, I had asked MR if he could pass by Teppanyaki Rice while he was out on an errand. He brought home a bowl; I loved it. I had decided to blog about it but when I got the invite I decided to do this one instead. ☺

Ordering from Dimsum Break is very convenient for us as there is a branch 5-10 minutes away from our house. Food is always delivered on-time and hot when it gets here.

If you have a toddler and you are living in the Philippines then there is no way you do not know Jollibee. Jollibee is the Filipino version of McDonald's fastfood. That bee is loooooved by children, my SM included! If I wanted to avoid it, it'd be pretty hard as they are about everywhere in the city! One of my daughter's first words was Jollibee. Well, more like "Jobebee" and with matching finger pointing every time she saw that bee. A daily car ride usually has an average of 3 finger pointings and "Jobebees". But it's not like I have any complaining to do. I have to admit, I like the bee and its food! Oops!

When I think of a sauce to go with fish and seafood, I think of horseradish. I guess this is from my love for Cocktail Sauce, which I usually serve with Steamed Shrimps. This sauce I made today is like that Cocktail Sauce, but totally different. ☺
When you have a 2 year old, cooking for them is always a challenge. It is an ever-ending experiment and it is my challenge to make sure I can provide a balanced meal to my daughter. When she started eating solids, I promised myself I would always try to make our meals from scratch. That way it is preservative-free, MSG-free, and I can control our sodium intake.
Ticketamerica.com has Edmonton Oilers Hockey Tickets and seating available at Rexall Place and all NHL tickets.

Twice in two weeks. And almost identical orders too. That's how much we prefer this carenderia rather than the ones right outside our village.

I've always loved the smell when entering a Pizza Hut establishment. Cooked pizza, yum! I just love the scent of fresh baked bread! ♥
This is the only restaurant Dad wants to dine at when we're at SM. I'm sure that if I begged, he'd tried something else but considering that he just went bowling with us, I thought I'd make him happy too. And it's not we don't like the food here because we do. ☺ The smell of the cooked pizza is always a turn-on!

While I was extending my Saturday morning sleep MR apparently went on an early grocery morning spree with SM. He must have been thinking of me while at the store because he brought home ice cream. And I know that it was for me because it was Reese's Ice cream. You see, MR is particular about his ice cream. He likes it with nothing mixed in it; no peanuts, no chocolate chips, no mint bits, nothing! The only exception is Gelatissimo's Pistachio ice cream which has little bits of Pistachios, but he puts up with it because he loves loves loves their Pistachio ice cream.

As a cheese, Blue Cheese is very strong and can make for the most wonderful meal accompaniment. I eat it as is, on bread or even mixed with butter. It can also be turned into a delicious salad dressing and even steak sauce! I've also had it on a pizza, which I was hesitant at first, but turned out quite good.
