SM's Crepe Maker & Crepes Day

KR (read previous post if you still don't know her) is not only my good friend, but she is also SM's Godmother. A couple of weeks ago (when she just got back from France), we went out for coffee at a mall and she asked me what she could get SM for her third birthday. We were just going through a store and I happened to see this Crepe Maker toy that SM mentioned she really liked. I mustn't have been looking at it closely because I thought it was a playing dough sort-of-toy.

When SM opened her gift, she had a huge smile when she found this. I took a closer look and realized that this doesn't use play dough, it actually makes real crepes! So on this Saturday, we were making crepes! Fun! ☺

I made the crepe batter from scratch. With just basically flour, milk, egg, vanilla, and sugar. After mixing everything together, we put it in this blue mold to microwave.

SM and I followed the procedure word for word, but the crepe turned out a little undercooked. But then again, I didn't expect it to make gourmet crepes- it is a toy after all!

See! It's not exactly the perfect crepe, but pretty close. This is a great toy if you ask me! It has helped SM to follow procedures carefully and to listen to directions. And it's a great bonding activity! ☺

Since I made a lot of crepe batter and they were undercooked using SM's toy, SM and I agreed to bring out my crepe pan and make the crepes the traditional way. This is how they turned out.

We brought out the toppings. Some like it au naturel with just a little sprinkle of sugar, others with hazelnut chocolate spread, others with assorted jams, and with maple syrup. For me, it's all good! ☺

  1. You can make large crepes with these skillets. You need specialized crepe tools like spreader and turner to make crepes.

  2. Yeah, we actually one of those in our kitchen. The one I featured in this post is more of a toy for children, hence the less desirable result. Hehehe.
