If you read my previous post, then you know I did a little Valentine's Day grocery shopping yesterday with my niece. Not everything we bought was for the dinner. While shopping for our dinner, I managed to grab a couple of items for my own personal use which I mentally noted to feature in my blog.
Tha name of the pastry I am featuring in this post is - Le Fraisier, which comes from the word Fraise, or Strawberry. This was my favorite cake when I was a little girl and I can remember my parents buying me this for my birthdays. It was always featured in photos! Some say that it is similar to a Strawberry Shortcake, but I disagree.
At first glance, I did not think it was a Fraisier. This looked nothing like my childhood cake! But the beautiful strawberries caught my curiosity and when I looked at the box, I saw that it was indeed a Fraisier. I took the box with me, paid 3.80€ for it, and waited for today to eat it by my lonesome self. Every swallow made it easier to pass the sweet bitterness that was Valentine's Day this year. If it didn't look like the Fraisier I was used to loving, the taste was kind of there, but not exactly. This Fraisier had a thin layer of chocolate chiffon cake which wrapped the Strawberry Mousse and then topped with sweet strawberries. My childhood Fraisier was made with Strawberry Mousse which had strawberry bits in it. I'm not sure anymore if there was chiffon cake; but if there was it was mixed in the mousse and then the cake was decorated with strawberries and the likes. I'm sure that if you google it, you'll get the photo of what I'm talking about! Don't salivate too much though! He he he!
P.S. I forgot to mention in my post yesterday that I received a wonderful surprise from my husband, my daughter, my father, my husband's parents, and even my helper yesterday! It was simple and very thoughtful, but I suspect a little heavy on my husband's wallet! Ha ha ha! :)
