Take-Out Lunch from Picnics in Metz, France
I am in the final steps of having my newly-bought car certified to my name and I have to hurry if I don't want to be penalized. I've already decided that once I would be done with the purchasing of the car and transferring it to my name, I would dedicate one whole post on how to purchase a car in France for all those interested to buy. I'm hoping this will help some of you.

Cream of Radish Leaves Soup
Per Dad's advice, I kept the green leaves from the French Radishes I had yesterday to make a soup for dinner tonight. Perfect timing, I say, as the weather is cooler with ocassional rain showers. And we like hot soups on cold nights!

French Radish
I was talking to my Dad through FaceTime this morning, when AN came in with a bunch of radishes straight from her garden. French radish are simple, but delicious to munch on! Especially when it comes straight from the garden like this. I had Dad on hold while I received the bowl and greeted AN and the first thing he said when I got back to him was, "how lucky you are to have these beautiful radishes." The guy was totally jealous, but he was right - I am lucky!

Le Nouveau Siecle at Nancy, France
Red Hanging Lamps. Buffet table in the form of a mini-temple. Strong Herb-y Scent. Soft melodies of familiar tunes. Today, I had lunch at a Chinese restaurant and I almost felt like I was back home. Riding the Tram transport system in Nancy today, the yellow, blue, and red writing on the restaurant Le Nouveau Siecle in Nancy, France felt like they were calling out my name and asking me to come inside. And that plea was hard to resist!

Election Day - Sunday Lunch
Sunday lunch was especially good today, well not that it is ever bad if you think about it. But my sister likes to kick it up a notch whenever it's just us on Sunday lunch and then for dinner, we eat close to nothing, just a casse-croute, something to counter the hunger. So what did we have that was so good today? Wait and find out!

Beef Burger + Garlic Mushroom Pasta
If I'm not busy on Tuesdays, then generally I eat lunch at home alone. Sister is at work, the kids are in school, and my brother-in-law eats lunch at his mother's house. She invites me for lunch at times. She can accomodate up to 7 people at her dining table, but she prioritzes her grandchildren. And I tell her that that's normal every time she apologizes for not having me over and there is no need for her to apologize. I really am spoiled by the people here; I will forever be thankful to them!

Sunday Lunch: Pan-Roasted Duckling + Carottes Vichy + Baked Potato Rolls
Another typical family Sunday lunch. After I got back from Sunday mass, I was pleasantly surprised to see what was waiting for me at the dining table. Too good! :))))

Dinner at Six Thirty turns ONE!!!
It's my blog's first birthday and I couldn't be happier! I started this blog a year ago with a post about me, a little introduction into my past and how I came to love cooking and most especially eating thanks to my parents. It was Thursday, the 11th of April 2011. The first recipe I featured was a Shrimp Bisque. Since then, I've written about restaurants and hotels I've visited and recipes I've experimented with. The past year has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, especially with my recent life-changing move to France. One of my biggest adult-life challenge. The separation from my family has been very hard and I find it difficult to talk about it with the people around me here. My blog has become my comfort zone to air out my feelings. I've received many comments from readers that have helped me a lot. If I haven't thanked you already, let me say it again - THANK YOU!

Shopping Bag: Orangina
Friday the 13th. In the Philippines, it's considered as a day of bad luck. In France, it's a day of good luck. While DO decides to play the Lotto, I get myself a 1.5L bottle of Orangina - my favorite non-alcoholic drink. I think I've written about this a couple of times, well, here's one whole post just for it!

Shopping Bag: Le Rustique
For this year's Lenten season, I sacrificed cheese, bread, and chocolates. Let me tell you this, it was tough! Especially when every meal in France has cheese and bread, and maybe sometimes Chocolates. But this was my personal sacrifice, something that I do every year for myself. I've resisted temptation and the memory that burned my mind was at lunch on one Thursday at LU's house; she had a irresistible new Le Rustique cheese that was just beautiful. It was bad enough that it was perfect-looking, but it smelled incredible too as I shook my head and passed the cheese platter to my neighbor!

Gifts from Paris, France
DO, TH, and MO just got back from their 3 day Paris trip. It was a quick weekend visit to their Parisian friends, the same friends who came over last October. I think that they are also planning to come and visit us a few weeks from now. Anyways, the fambam didn't come back home empty-handed and I wanted to dedicated this post for the goodies they brought back for me.

Have a Blessed Easter!!!
Have a blessed Easter my dear friends! Let's have some chocolates! :)))
Easter for me this year is nothing like I imagined it to be. I was browsing through my old blog posts last night and I stumbled on a series I made on Imperial Palace Waterpark Cebu. That's when I realized that was during our Easter stay last year! Time sure flies fast! That's partly why I love doing this blog. With all the changes going around me, I tend to forget events in my life, but I can always go back and relive them through my blog.

Shopping Bag: Magnum Mini
Now that the majoooooor Magnum Ice Cream craze has died down in the Philippines, I've decided it's time to write about my own experience. Like many, I was shocked to see the effect Magnum had on people. Social network sites were bombarded with statuses and photos. That went on for weeks and I couldn't help but wonder what is it about this ice cream that makes people go gaga.

Baked Cod Fish with Cream and Shallots
We eat a lot of red meat here. The meat is locally grown and really really good, but once in a while I make sure to cook fish. Thankfully, my brother-in-law and sister like fish, but my niece and nephew are harder to feed. While my nephew absolutely refuses to eat fish and seafood, my niece will eat it especially when I cook it this way - with cream and shallots.

Brasserie de la Republique at Morhange, France
The sun has been out for the past several days and it sure looks like it's here to stay! Out on our usual errands, I suggested to DO that we take a little break and enjoy a cup of coffee out on a terrace. Il font profiter du soleil, I told her. I got the idea from the news on the television which showed people enjoying their lunch and afternoon coffee at terraces in the nearby cities of Metz and Nancy. Just because we are living in a small village, doesn't mean we can't do the same!

Huo-Long Biogas
BIOGAS – I had no idea what it was at first. But I took a minute to think about it and I thought to myself, Biogas? BIO-gas. It must be from organic matter. Then I looked online and I was right. Biogas is gas produced from to the biological breakdown from organic matter in the absence of oxygen (according to Wikipedia). Organic matter such as human, animal, plant waste. All of these rejects are turned into biogas. In turn, this biogas can turned into fuel, which can be used in cooking and other activities than needs fuel to work. Perhaps a car that utilizes biogas in the coming years! That would be amazing!
If you want more information on biogas, you can check the link of this company that knos a whole lot about it : biomethane

Mango Tatin
One day I was surfing the internet, looking at different food blogs and sites, and for some reason recipes for Tarte Tatin kept popping up. Tarte Tatin is an upside down caramelized apple tart. We had mangoes in the kitchen's fruit bin and out of the blue, I told DO making a Tarte Tatin using mangoes instead of apples would be interesting and something I was seriously giving thoughts into.

Le Marche de Paques at Morhange, France
Something really exciting happened today. Can you guess what?! I've made up my mind and I think it's time for me to purchase a car. I've been toying with the idea in my head and have been looking at online sites but had no success. I want a small car, an automatic, not too expensive, and in good condition. And then a couple of days ago, I saw online a really really good offer. It's an automatic, it's not too expensive, it's in good condition, but it's not a small car (it's not huuggeee either). 3 positives versus 1 negative. So what happened today? We went to check out the car - to make up my mind before purchasing it. Fortunately, the car is really in good condition and I guess I'm most definitely gonna make an offer within the week. How exciting!
