La Table du Saulnois in Maizieres-les-Vic, France

This is just the prettiest plate I've ever had. The combination of colors and smell coming from this dish honestly left me breathless a second or two. I somehow feel weird trying to put down into words how I felt, but my sister, her sister-in-law, and I stared at our plates to admire it before taking our first bite, not even sure where to begin.

Restaurant L'Embellie in Dieuze, France

I was down on my knees busy counting the number of pencil cases in my sister's shop when she called our names and said it was noon. She was closing the shop for two hours and taking my niece and I to a nearby restaurant. My sister owns a book store (she sells books, school and office supplies, and gift ideas too!). Since school starts in September, it means that inventory should be done by the end of June so she can start receiving new stocks by early July. My niece and I came over today to help her with the inventory so she can keep the store open for customers. Of course, we didn't ask to be paid, but the promise of a lunch restaurant did motivate us. Pssssttt- I would have done it even without the restaurant!

Girolles / Chanterelles / Jaunettes Mushrooms

Last night, we lost the dog again! It was even harder this time as it was the second time! While eating dinner, we realized that the dog had managed to sneak out of the house. She had no electronic collar on her and she wasn't even wearing her usual collar which had her name and the telephone number at home. After several tries of calling her and whistling, there was no sign of her - we were worried! It was raining pretty hard as MO and I took the car and went around. We even went to nearby villages - but no signs of the damn dog!

Chou Farci / Stuffed Cabbage - Au Charolais in Morhange, France

I know two butchers in the village of Morhange, France. Boucherie - Charcuterie - Traiteur, like it says on one of the establishment.  By the way, those three words mean Butchery - Delicatessen - Caterer. As part of their catering services, they also prepare and sell a dish of the day. Always 2 choices are provided. I go to Laurent Friederich's store today, SARL au Charolais, and fixate on the choice of Chou Farci / Stuffed Cabbage.

La Fete des Cerises at Westhoffen, Alsace France

So DO, TH, and I went on a little road trip yesterday. About 100 kilometers away in Westhoffen in the Alsace Region of France. The reason for this little trip is for these beautiful cherries pictured above. It is time for the annual Fete des Cerises / Cherry Festival in Westhoffen, Alsace. TH is huge huge cherry fan so this was a perfect day to celebrate Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day 2012

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL FATHERS IN THE WORLD!!!

On this beautiful day, my special thoughts go out to my dad who is halfway around the world and to my husband who is equally as far. Both men mean so much to me and have a special place in my heart. While I took the time to send messages to them this morning, I am spending this day with another father in the family, my brother-in-law TH. TH is an amazing person - kind, respectful, intelligent, and hardworking. It is one of my dad's pride to know that both his daughters married good guys.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

I did not sleep well at all last night. I don't know if it was because of the 4PM cup of coffee I had yesterday afternoon, but I'm practically sure it has to do with the quick trip my husband and my dad took to Manila. I tossed and turned around in my bed until about 2AM until I got a message that they arrived safely. I know it's a quick one hour airplane ride, but being away halfway around the world stresses me out. Same thing when I woke up this morning (woke up wayyyyy too early!). I was anxious to get a message that they were back home safe. I got it around lunch time and we talked right away. My dad got his new passport and husband's visa is safely waiting for him. Finally, some good news - which is a quick break from the bad news we've been having!

Strawberry and Cream

How did we eat the Strawberries we harvested from the garden? Simply with cream. I've always had my strawberries with cream, but the way my dad served it was with whipped cream. His way was good, but sorry Dad, I have to admit that I prefer the way they serve it at my sister's house.

Picking Fresh Strawberries in the Backyard Garden

Every month of June, my sister has a beautiful garden with strawberries. My sister isn't the gardener-type, unlike a lot of women in the region. For the many women that I've come to know here, gardening is a passion and a way of life. And who can blame them, I reckon it is a luxury to be able to grab your own fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs from the backyard. DO might not appreciate her garden, but I sure am seeing myself having one in the foreseeable future!

Kefan and Courtepaille in Metz Sebastopol, France

I was back in Metz for a job interview today. The interview was at 2PM but I took the morning train to arrive early. I always make it a habit to arrive at least 30 minutes before my meetings. Sometimes I get there hours before, but it gives me the chance to walk around and explore the city. In today's case, I was able to explore for the first time Metz Sebastopol.

Mother's Day 2012

This year I got to celebrate mother's day twice. The first observing the special day in the Philippines which was on May 13 and the second time today in France. Being away from my family is not easy, especially not being able to do what we traditionally do. But this year, I got two greeting cards, 2 online flower bouquets, 2 dedicated videos, and endless "I love you's and I miss you's". Motherhood is the best thing that ever happened to me in my life.
