Asian Flavors for the Chinese New Year


I met the nicest person today!!! MR and I were parking our car in the centre ville of Dieuze this afternoon, when a red Chinese lantern caught the corner of my eye. A Chinese lantern in Dieuze?!? In the 2 years that I've been in France, I've never seen any signs of Asian anything that wasn't in the big city of Metz or in a 10 kilometers radius of it. MR and I had planned to go check out several shops, but I couldn't help and see who was inside this food truck parked in the middle of the town's square.


It turns out the person responsible for my good fortune today is one of the nicest women I've met in France so far. This was her second week to sell her products and she has a small list of clients already, including me now! She sells daily fried noodles, fried rice, croq'crevettes, samosas, and nems. She had a dish of the day today, but she confessed that she was undecided to continue making a dish of the day. I guess it all depends on her clientele and how much she can sell. I could not not order from her. I initially got fried items and rice, but after talking some more, I added a dish of the day as well. Her smile and enthusiasm really touched me and yes, you will hear from this place again soon!



Croq'Crevettes (0,70 Euros per piece). Resembled a lot like Samosas minus the curry and according to the nice lady with more than 50% of shrimps in the stuffing.



Nems aux Porc / Pork Fried Spring Roll (0.90 Euros per piece).



Riz Cantonais / Cantonese Fried Rice (3 Euros per container / about 200 grams).



Poulet aux Noix de Cajou / Chicken with Cashews (7 Euros). The dish of the day.



Aigre Douce / Sweet and Sour dipping sauce.



Nuoc Mam dipping sauce.



Dinner is served: Riz Cantonais, Croq'Crevettes, Nems, and Poulet aux Noix de Cajou

This was just in time for the Chinese New Year 2014 - The Year of the Wood Horse. I have plans to celebrate next week with friends, but tonight turned out to be a pretty good night en tete a tete with my loving husband. And the meal was pretty good. First of all, we couldn't help but admire the fact that everything is made from scratch, including the sauces! And second, the dishes were delicious, full of flavors, seasoned perfectly, but at the same time also felt very light. We were left satisfied and convinced to come back for more!
