Grand Frais in Metz Borny, France

Every Wednesday morning, I like to go to a weekly Farmer's Market to fill up on our week's worth of fresh vegetables and fruits. But sometimes because of my work, I am incapable to do so. But that's alright as I found a store in Metz that can help me. I knew that the store, Grand Frais, had a nice display of vegetables and fruits, but because we don't live near one I rarely ever went shopping there. Luckily, my new work office is 5 minutes away so I promised myself that I would check it out after work someday. I recently met a lovely Filipina woman who told me that she was able to buy tropical fruits such as Rambutan, Mangoes, and Atis in Grand Frais. I suddenly wondered what else I could find.

This is what 70 Euros worth of fruits and vegetables looks like. Way over my weekly budget, but then again there's no price when it comes to my family and eating well. In France, we are regularly told we should eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day!

Poivrons Rouge / Red Bell Pepper

Onion du Printemps / Spring Onions

Asperges Blanches / White Asparagus

Petite Banane / Small Banana

Mangoustan / Mangosteen - my favorite!!!

Framboise / Raspberry

Mangue Sauvage / Wild Mango - sadly, it does not hold a candle to Cebu Mangoes!

Radis / Radish

Chou Chinois / Chinese Cabbage

Plante de Basilic / Basil Plant - I will try to keep this plant alive as long as possible. Emphasize on the word try.

Gingembre / Ginger

Anone / Guyabano - apparently, this fruit is reputed to have anti-cancer powers. Delicious and really good for the body!

Fresh Salad - perfect for dinner.
