How's the Family?

There are some moments in my life where I just stop whatever I'm doing and realize how lucky I am . As I look out the window of my office at the passing cars, I see the blue sky, the shining sun, and the colourful flowers in full bloom. I take a deep breath and reflect. My life is far from perfect. MR and I have had our fair share of obstacles. But like they say, whatever doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. We also have our share of good news and I'm grateful for all the blessings we've been receiving. The next 2 months are looking real good. MR and I will be working a bit, but SO finishes school on the 3rd of July. She will be spending her weekdays at the Centre Aéré near our house and then she will be off to Colonie de Vacances / Summer Camp for the second year in a row (click here for the post). I'm hoping I will handle a week without SO better than I did last year. Fortunately, when she comes home, we will head out to the south of France for a 2-week vacation. I cannot wait to get away!

Ristorante Del Arte in Metz, France

Last month, I had a sudden craving for Spaghetti Bolognese. I knew it would be a while before I could make some at home, but I also knew I needed to eat some ASAP. I looked up restaurants online, for when I would eat out, which coincidentally turned out to be the next day. Ristorante Del Arte seemed like a clear choice. Not too far from my workplace, Italian, affordable, and I'd never been before.

A Day in Saarbrucken, Germany

Coincidentally MR and I happened not to be working one Monday. We first thought we would enjoy it relaxing together at home, but we changed our mind when we saw how beautiful the day was going to be. Hot with a cool breeze or the perfect Spring day. In the past years, we've been hearing from friends and colleagues about the wonders of Saarbrucken in Germany. We decided today would be the perfect opportunity for MR and I to check out what everyone has been talking about.

Father's Day 2015

Yesterday we celebrated Father's Day. I didn't think I would write a post about it, but when MR and I were talking we thought it was cool to be able to look back family events in my blog. I can't help but wonder if 20 years from now, SO, who will be almost my age now (eeeekkk!), will be reading through this blog to remember her childhood memories. I hope she does.

Kids OOTD #1

After my daughter, SO, asked me if there was any way she could be part of my blog, I decided to come up with the idea of the Kids OOTD (outfit of the day). SO is 6 years old now and is showing interest in fashion. She knows what she wants and doesn't want and sometimes it's hard to understand. Hehehe. For today's outfit, we were inspired by SO's end of the school year program. Her teacher specifically asked that we prepare a yellow top and black pants for the presentation, so that's what SO and I set out to buy at one of our favorite store, H&M.

Garlic Jumbo Shrimps

I was stuck in traffic for an hour going to work this morning. Grrrr. It's not so much the traffic and waiting that bugs me, it's more the fact that I was 30 minutes late for work. I found my trainees waiting for me when I finally got to work and I don't like the feeling of being waited for. Thankfully the rest of the day has been going much smoother. Tomorrow is SO's end-of-the-school-year program and MR and I have the afternoon off to watch our little girl. I missed it last year, so there was absolutely no way I was going to miss it again this year. Plus, SO was selected to introduce her class's presentation solo. I can't help but be proud of her. I'm most probably biased, but not only is she beautiful, she is also intelligent, polite, and friendly. After the program, we organized a barbecue, games, and carousel rides for the kids and their families.  I've been slightly stressing about that, but what stresses me most is Father's Day this weekend. I already know what MR wants as a gift, but I thought I would make a special meal for him. A Father's Day special. But for the life of me, I have yet to decide what I'm going to do. I could prepare a Cote de Boeuf or Bone-In Rib-Eye Steak or Jumbo Shrimps. Problem is ... I just served some last weekend!

And we're back to square one, I guess.

Buffalo Grill in Semecourt, France

Buffalo Grill in Semecourt, France is a restaurant not so far from Ayako Sushi (click here for the post). Last March, I experienced dining for the first time in Buffalo Grill Semecourt and it will most probably be the last one. It was such a bad experience that I had totally forgotten about it until I was browsing through my pictures today. My first time ever trying a Buffalo Grill was 2 years ago (click here fore the post) in the ZAC d'Augny and looking back it wasn't so bad. This time , in Semécourt, was plain horrible.

Lunch at Ayako Sushi in Semecourt, France

As much as I don't want to think about it for now, I know that summer is coming. Don't get me wrong, I love the summer, especially the vacation part, but it also means that I am ambushed with an enormous amount of things to do (at work and in my personal life). At work, it's always complicated to wrap things up before the break. Clients are in a hurry and colleagues are away on trainings or early vacation. In my personal life, SO is almost done with her school year (her last day is on the 3rd of July) and it's time for the usual end-of-the-year programs. I'll be working in July, so I have to organize her summer activities (child care center and summer camp). And best of all, our family vacation. Oh yeahhhhh!!!! I'm hoping to finalize the details this week. Anyways, I can also tell it's almost summer by the crazy temperatures we've been having. I got in my car the other day and it said it was 40 degrees Celsius! It was most probably because the car was under the sun but it was easily 29 degrees Celsius in the air.

L'Ours Noir in Nancy, France

About 2 months ago, MR, SO, and I decided to check out La Foire Attractive in Nancy, France. It was the end of the week and we thought it would be a great way to de-stress from work and school. We did what we usually do when we go to Nancy - we left the car at the Mouzimpré parking and took the tram. To go to the venue of the fair, we rode the tram to the Point Central tram stop and walked 10 minutes to La Place Carnot.

Aux Dragons d'Or in Forbach, France

The second of June is always a special date for me as it is my mother's birthday. She was always big on birthdays. Always having huge birthday parties and inviting the whole neighbourhood. To some a birthday is just like any other day, but not to me. I guess my mother passed onto me her enthusiasm. It's been 13 years since she passed away and although we don't celebrate it anymore, it is always in the back of my mind.

Tete de Veau at La Diligence in Metz, France

Tete de Veau or Calf's Head always divides people. It's simple - you either love or hate it. For MR and I, once we got past the thought that it was an actual calf's head, we decided we loved it. Granted that the first time we had Tete de Veau was at my brother-in-law's mother's house. She is a terrific cook and luckily for me shared her traditional recipe (click here for the post). Like for a lot of French offal dishes, there is a special preparation and you basically have to trust the cook. Tete de Veau is usually eaten during winter and spring. I haven't had the time to make some this season, which is why I decided to stop by the restaurant, La Diligence in Metz, France today. La Diligence is a French traditional restaurant that I love in Metz (click here for the post) and it's my not-so-secret / secret spot. I've been passing by it for the past couple of weeks and every time I did I saw their outdoor sign which said they were cooking Tete de Veau that day. I told myself I should try it. I figured if it's frequently being prepared it must be one of their specialties.
