Philips Food Processor HR 7761/00

I've always said that the best kitchen tool one can have are their hands. It's particularly true when I have to knead dough, marinate meat or fish, or roll meatballs. But when summer comes around and it's salad season, my hands cannot unfortunately slice cucumber, celery, or carrots as thin as I would like. Point is I needed a food processor. Actually, I wanted a Kitchenaid, which is still a dream I hope to have someday, but I had to be reasonable as our current kitchen doesn't have much space. So instead, I opted for the Philips Food Processor HR 7761/00 (click here for the link), which doesn't take much space in my kitchen, but has been essential to prepare our meals lately.

Shopaholic's Corner: H&M France -Tennis Shoes

At the end of Spring / beginning Summer, I stopped by the store, H&M in Semecourt, France. The sole purpose was to take a look at the possible items that would be on sale for the summer sales. But you know me, I have a hard time going out of a store empty-handed.

Les Terrasses du Lac in Gerardmer, France

After spending a calm and relaxing afternoon with my love, we decided to choose a place to have dinner. We remembered being slightly disappointed with the restaurant we ate at last year (click here for the post), so that was off the list for today. Unfortunately, with no reservations in a tourist city like Gerardmer (and with the French Canoe-Kayak Championship going on), our chances seemed pretty slim, but we went out to venture anyways.

An Afternoon in Gerardmer, France

After we dropped our daughter, SO, at summer camp, MR and I decided to drop by Gerardmer. We did it last year (click here for the post) and had lovely memories. So naturally we were excited to come back this year. There's only 30 kilometers between the 2 cities, but the road is a little tough with the zigzags and curves. But once you get there, it's all worth it.

Fresse-sur-Moselle in the Vosges, France

There's something about the Vosges that I absolutely love. On the way there, I can tell exactly where the border of the department Meurthe-et-Moselle ends and the Vosges begins. Everything becomes greener, fresher, and cooler. I'm a sucker for the beach, but the typical landscape of the Vosges, with its beautiful mountains and hills, somehow make my heart beat a little faster with excitement and happiness. As I was driving last Saturday, MR mentioned that I had a huge smile all over my face. I looked at the mirror and he was right - I really did.

Potato and Smoked Salmon Salad

I can't help but feel amused by how excited my French friends become when the sun first starts appearing in Spring. You'd think the excitement was about finally getting some natural light after a long winter, but this excitement is usually accompanied by, "Yey, we can finally have a barbecue at home." LOL. At times, the sun shines, but unfortunately the temperature in the air isn't warm enough, but my friends tell me, "no worries we will grill outside, but eat inside." Again, LOL. Anyways, don't get me wrong, I love barbecue or les grillades. But when it's the thing you keep eating on weekends (at family's, friend's and town events) from March to September, you quickly get sick of it. I don't know about you, but I do.

Vapiano in Luxembourg Ville, Luxembourg

So I mentioned that we spent the afternoon in Luxembourg the other day (click here for the post). Naturally, we thought we would stay in the city for dinner. Our original plans were to eat at the Filipino Restaurant Bar, but unfortunately we were told that they didn't serve dinner. We didn't know what to do and we asked ourselves where we could go. By then, we were walking towards the car park which was close to the train station. We walked by the restaurant Vapiano, looked at each other, and mentally asked - why not?!

Spring 2015

With the current on-going heatwave, it would be hard to deny that we are in summer. It's been a couple of days now and it seems we have finally adjusted. Temperatures in the morning usually start at 25 degrees Celsius and increase up to 38 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. This is really unusual especially in the east region of France, but thankfully it seems to be getting better today. It's 5:30PM as I'm typing this and it's 31 degrees Celsius. I hope it continues to descend this week. I strongly feel that temperatures this high shouldn't exist where there isn't a beach nearby! LOL. Speaking of the sea, I can't wait to go on vacation to the south of France at the end of the month. Before leaving, I will try to update this blog as much as I can, starting with this post dedicated to the Spring we had.

Mangoo Supermarket in Luxembourg

It's true when they say that one does not know what one has until the day they don't have it anymore. I faced the harsh truth when I got to France. At first, I thought I would do fine. I told myself -I'm half-French and I love French food, so I should do just fine. Wrong! Point is when you live your whole life eating certain flavors, one point or another, even after a break, you will start looking for those flavors again. It's that fresh mango for breakfast, or roasted pork (Lechon) for lunch, that sweetness in the Spaghetti sauce , or even that final touch of calamansi on Pancit Canton. All of this I miss so much and more.
